Sustainability at CMU
The Sustainability Initiative at CMU
In September 2019, CMU committed to aligning the university’s education, research and practices to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This includes publishing the world first Voluntary University Review of the Sustainable Development Goals. Visit CMU's Sustainability Initiative website to learn more.
The Sustainable Development Goals
The SDGs, also known as the Global Goals, are 17 global objectives to create a more equitable and viable planet by 2030. These goals came together following input from millions of people around the world, with younger generations especially engaged. They were adopted by the global community at the United Nations in 2015.
University-Led Practice Activities
The Sustainability Initiative committee developed a tool to map and display how classes and initiatives across CMU are related to the 17 SDGs. For the university-led practices tool, each activity was manually tagged with up to three SDGs and linked to the source website so that anyone interested in how CMU is addressing an SDG can easily access the relevant information.
